Broken Vows - Diary ya ga Obonolo Chapter 57

I sure did not hear Mc calling on the next speaker, because I only saw Obakeng standing up there, about to make her speech.

I looked her way, as she started greeting everyone and introducing herself. Her speech was so emotional. Telling me about the potholes, the speed humps, the gravel road I will experience in this marriage journey. She advised me to just sing Lekunutu le Morena, are ke otle ka lengwele fo fatshe and give all to God.

She continued and said:

“I’ve been Noli's best friend since we were little girls. I remember how we used to play dress-up and dream of the weddings we would have when we were grown up. I’m sure that the wedding that has taken place here today far surpasses the childhood dreams I know Noli had about her big day!

Noli is one of the most loving, caring and kind people I’ve ever met. She has a fantastic sense of humor and a sharp wit — so look out, TK! All kidding aside, though, I couldn’t be happier to honor my best friend on her wedding day. You’ve always been there for me throughout the years, and now I am honored to stand by your side today.

When Noli began dating Kev, I could tell their relationship would be more than just a casual thing. I could tell right away that there was something special there, something that we all want to find for ourselves — true love.”

Obonolo le Karabello, I wish you all the love and happiness in the world. How blessed you are to celebrate your love on this beautiful day, also being Noli's birthday. I know there are many happy years of love and togetherness ahead for you.

Kevin, I know you will love and care for Obonolo for the rest of her life. I couldn’t wish for a better groom for my best friend!

Thank you.

As she made her way to her seat.Dj played Count on me by Whitney Houston and Cece Winans.

Thats our song. We always promised to stand by each other, through the stormy weathers. We always had and we always will.

My best friend, Mmata wa me, she put a brave face when she spoke, yet deep inside I knew she's falling apart. Her marriage was going through hell.

She married a man because she fell pregnant not because of love. Mme wa gagwe was against the idea of her getting married at such a young age, but she ended supporting her daughter.. Initially Obakeng was in love with Jabu, but as soon as she fell pregnant, she experienced Jabu's controlling and abusive behavior.

She always contemplated to leave, but he always begged her and promised to change. He would change for a month and go back to his ways. He promised to be a better man. Obakeng said Jabu wanted their daughter to have his surname immediately after she was born. Obakeng told him that she won’t let her daughter use his surname ba ise ba nyalane.

Upon hearing that the only time his daughter will use his surname was through marriage, Jabu asked her to marry him, she agreed with hope that he would keep his promise to be a better man and father. He kept the promise for a while longer, untill after they walked down the aisle, afterwards, all hell broke loose. Jabu was even more abusive and controlling than before.

It was too late to get out; she had a marriage and a daughter to protect, as she says. So she is just miserable in her marriage and worst, she was stuck.

As I was just thinking of my friend, Mc called Kgosi to make his speech.
Kgosi went towards the MC, took the mic and introduced himself and started talking.

He went on about how he and Kev grew up. He told everyone how they had the best childhood and been in each others lives ever since. He briefly spoke about how Kev finally ended up with me. Him stealing his sister's phone to get my numbers.

Everyone laughed.

He congratulated us, and said he is planning to catch the garter,so that He will be next on line to the altar.

He continued,

As I begin this wedding speech one of the first thoughts that come to mind is… if I’m the best man… then why is Obonolo getting married to Kev not me? ( people laughed and he paused) ,

He then continued

Well, I guess because today, I am just an average man and Kevin is in fact the best man. His fearless honesty and lack of self-consciousness of character, distinguished his personality.

Bophelong baka, ke a tseba, ko manyalong, bestman e tlameha to sing praises ka Groom, and deliver a great speech. Ke tlameha go bua ka tsela e Kevin a lokileng, ebile a loketse Obonolo,ka teng,
Unfortunately, I’m a bad singer and a bad liar. ( we all laughed and disturbed his speech)

He continued

Kevin buddy … Obonolo is a model of grace and poise: sophisticated and classy, yet grounded, wonderful, stunningly beautiful, yet wholesome, she's a kind and good hearted person who deserves a great husband.Thank goodness you snapped her up before she found one. (Kev laughed so hard, with some of their friends)he then said,

All kidding aside bahaetsho, – Ke motlotlo ho ba mona tsatsing lena ho thaba le bagotse baka. Kev and Nolo, Ke lerata haholo bobedi ba lona. Ntate Modimo a le arabele, in everything you need and I wish you many years of happy marriage. Lots of little OK's ( ObonoloKevins) running around.Je ka he Tau e tona e sentse e buile. Re batla ditawana.

As he spoke, he opened a piece of paper he had and read something from it.

He said, This is Kev and Nolo's favorite author. We knew who he was talking about. He started reading:

"You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore. You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days.Yes, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.

But let there be spaces in your togetherness, and let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
Love one another, but make not a bond of love:Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.

Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together yet not too near together:For the pillars of the temple stand apart,And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.

By Khalil Gibran

Love this strong and fulfilling couldn't have happened to two more deserving, generous and loving people! This is a match well made in heaven, its true destiny.

Cheers to Mr and Mrs Tau

MC: "A round of applause for our best man, no scratch that,it's actually to an average man,

As Kgosi walked back to his seat, guests were laughing and clapping until they were interrupted by Dj playing

Best Man song by singers Ginuwine, RL of Next, Tyrese and Case.

Everybody sung along to the end.
