Meet Thando Thabethe's leading man in her life, She leaves Generations to get married

ACTRESS, TV and radio personality Thando Thebethe got engaged to Frans Mashao, her boyfriend of more than four years. Frans popped the question when the lovebirds were in Ibiza, Spain last month.

Thando was in Spain for work. "I was there for work and I don't think he had planned to do it but we had a moment and it was a very deep conversation, and I guess he felt it was the right time. He went down on his knee and said 'will you marry me?'," says Thando.

Frans didn't have a ring because he did not plan to propose to her. But Thando revealed on her show, Thabooty Drive on 5FM, that as soon as they landed in South Africa, Frans went and got a ring designed, specifically for her and it is engraved, "I love you, boo boo."

Thando, who is better known as the fiesty Nolwazi Buzo on Generations, confirms that she has left the show and her busy schedule is the main reason she left. In May, she was appointed as co-host of the 5FM afternoon drive time show and she also endorses a premium alcohol brand. She announced in one of her tweets that she is working on a talk show.

"Yes, it is true that I have resigned from Generations. I've been with the soapie for about three years‚ it's just time to go. There are not enough hours in a day to do everything I want to do. It's all about growth and we are treated like royalty at Generations‚ so it's all love but I need more time to explore other things‚" she confirms in an interview.

She admits that leaving Generations was not an easy decision to make. Thando's last episode will air in January 2018.

She describes her time at Generations as amazing.

"My years at Generations have been nothing but amazing. What a privilege it's been to be part of this amazing family. Playing the role of Nolwazi has been nothing short of life-altering. I have learnt so much about myself and the incredible art of acting and I'm forever indebted to the producers, directors, writers, cast and crew and most especially the viewers," she said in a statement.

"This was not an easy decision to make but I take forward with me great relationships, a better understanding and appreciation of my craft, and confidence that will take me to greater heights," she added.

The soapie's creator, Mfundi Vundla, expressed his praises for the actress.

"Thando Thabethe is one of South Africa's most talented television actors. She has a great future to look forward to," he said in a statement.

Thando has not been specific about the details of what lies ahead for her in the entertainment industry. However, she has already hinted that there is a talk show on the cards. Things are looking up for her this year.
