EFF - Floyd Shivambu (EFF Deputy President)dies in car crash

Johannesburg – Multi-talented EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu,Born in Malamulele, Limpopo Province and a resident of Gauteng Province since 2002, Floyd Shivambu was a political activist, revolutionary, Freedom Charter Defender, writer, blogger, Publisher, and was a Spokesperson (2008 to 2012) for the ANC Youth League and member of its National Executive and Working Committees (2008 to 2012), died in a car accident on a Joburg highway on monday afternoon at the age of 34.

Joburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokeswoman Superintendent Edna Mamonyane said he was travelling alone at the time and was confirmed dead at the scene.

She said the accident happened at around 15:00 on the M1 between Houghton Drive and Oxford Road.

Mamonyane explained that Floyd collided with an audi A4 which hit his BMW on his right hand side.

“The audi then hit the barricade and damaged the rear tyre.”

She said that when paramedics arrived at the scene Floyd was found unconscious.

“They tried to revive him but he was declared dead at the scene.”

Maselepe said that the family travelling in the Audi A4 were not injured in the collision.

Floyd was also not found with any injuries caused by the accident but Maselepe said authorities would probe the incident.

“The matter is under investigation.”

As news of Shivambu’s death broke, tributes continued to pour in on social media for the Freedom Charter Defender, writer, blogger, Publisher, and was a Spokesperson
